MEMS PRE-KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM

MANCHESTER ELEMENTARY•MIDDLE SCHOOL PRE-KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM

Children who are legal residents of Manchester and will be four years old as of September 1, 2009 are eligible to enter the MEMS tuition-free pre-kindergarten program beginning for the 2009-2010 school year.

The Manchester School District authorized publicly funded pre-kindergarten education for all children the year before kindergarten eligibility. Three year old children being served as part of Head Start or the Early Education Initiative Grant will also be included in the count.

The Manchester School District's publicly funded pre-kindergarten programs are located in the Manchester Elementary•Middle School and also with private providers. Based upon past practice, we anticipate agreements with other community private early care and education programs that meet specific quality standards. Students who are enrolled in those programs who have a contract with Manchester School District are eligible for up to 10 hours of tuition free pre-kindergarten. The potential partners include:

o The Northshire Day School
o The Lawrence School
o Happy Days Play School

Applications for publicly funded pre-kindergarten delivered at private provider sites, will be available at the providers listed above and at the Manchester Elementary•Middle School. Participants who attend pre-kindergarten at the public school site will attend tuition free.

MEMS administrative staff will be available on Tuesday, June 16th from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Monday, June 22nd from 1 - 3:30 p.m. to meet with parents who are interested in registering for the MEMS program. Parents may stop by at their convenience for a 15-20 minute individual meeting during either of these open registration sessions.

Documents needed at the time of registration are your child's birth certificate, your child's immunization record, and proof of residency items (proof of residency may be a purchase agreement, a warranty deed, a lease agreement, Town Clerk's confirmation of Voter Registration, utility bills showing the physical address of the residence, and a valid Vermont state driver's license showing the physical address.) The MEMS office will be able to photocopy your documents if necessary.
